Easy How-To Guide to Making Vietnamese Egg Drop Soup in
15 Minutes or Less

From most of Vietnamese soup recipes, I find Vietnamese egg drop soup recipe to be the simplest. As an extra bonus, this soup is very tasty too. In fact after you review this article, you will be able to make your very own Vietnamese egg drop soup in 15 minutes or less.

Vietnamese egg drop soup is also called Canh Trung in Vietnamese. It requires few ingredients. Most, if not all, of the ingredients can be found in many supermarkets every where. The longest process of making this soup is reading the recipe, cutting, and preparing the vegetables.

Note: if you already have your own chicken broth, you do not need to add chicken flavored bouillon. Believe me, chicken broth from your own soup bones will taste ten times better than any flavoring agent. Use this recipe as your guide. Be sure to add additional salt or fish sauce to your liking.

Here are the ingredients you will need:

4 ounce ground meat
¼ cup finely chopped onion
2 medium tomatoes; sliced into wedges
2 tablespoons fish sauce
1 cube chicken flavored bouillon
½ teaspoon salt
1 egg
¼ cup finely chopped green onion
¼ cup finely chopped cilantro
1/8 teaspoon black pepper

Stir the meat and regular onion in a non-stick saucepan at medium high heat for 4 minutes.  Add 6 cups of water.  Bring to a boil.  Mix in tomato wedges, fish sauce, chicken cube, and salt.  Cook for 5 minutes.

Break an egg into a small bowl.  Beat well.  Slowly add and stir the egg mixture in to the broth.  Stirring helps prevent the egg from clumping together.  Cook for 3 more minutes.  Remove the saucepan from the heat.  Add green onion, cilantro, and black pepper.  Serve with steamed rice or as an appetizer.

Tip :  For tofu lovers, you may add ½ package of firm tofu to the soup.  Dice into small ½ inch squares.  Add tofu to the soup before adding the egg.

As you can see, this Vietnamese soup recipe is very simple and straight forward. If you are a soup lover like me and curious of what other Vietnamese soups you can conjure up, I highly recommend for you to order your very own Vietnamese cookbook,
